LOCAL ATTRACTIONS

Nethercraig is perfectly situated to explore a range of castles and stately homes and has plenty of local attractions to entertain adults and children alike. It is half an hour to Perth and Dundee with their attractions, nightlife and shopping opportunities. The big cities like Edinburgh and Glasgow are perfect for a day trip. Or for the more adventurous, Glenshee and the Cairngorms are only a short drive away.

Castles and Stately Homes

Glamis Castle, By Forfar 

​

Home of Her Majesty the Queen Mother and birthplace of Princess Margaret. Duncan's Hall in the oldest part of the castle is the legendary setting for Shakespeare's famous play Macbeth. Large gardens, nature trail, licensed restaurant, gift shop, gallery shop, garden shop, picnic area, children's playground and ample parking area.

Broughty Ferry Castle

Broughty Castle sits imposingly at the mouth of the River Tay.  Built in 1496 on a rocky promontory, it has faced many sieges and battles. The Castle has magnificent views over the river, and is only minutes away from Broughty Ferry Beach and Esplanade.

Blair Atholl Castle

​

A white turreted baronial castle, seat of the Duke of Atholl. Notable collections of furniture, pictures, embroidery, arms, porcelain and Jacobite relics. Extensive grounds, nature trail, deer park, restaurant, gift shop, pony trekking and picnic area.

Balmoral Castle

The Scottish Holiday Home of the Royal Family since 1852 when Prince Albert purchased it for Queen Victoria. It has long since been a favourite of the Royal Family and is frequented by Her Majesty The Queen. Large gardens and grounds, restaurant, gift shop, guided tours inside the castle.

RRS Discovery, Dundee

 

Spectacular exhibits and special effects vividly recreate historic voyage of a Royal Research Ship. Step aboard RRS Discovery herself for the last great ship adventure to the Antarctic. "Locked in the Ice" film show. Restaurant. Fantastic for Kids.

Edradour Distillery, Pitlochry

 

At Edradour they hold the proud distinction of being the smallest distillery in Scotland. They are also the last original 'farm' distillery in Perthshire. You'll find Edradour nestling in a pocket glen in the hills above Pitlochry in the Southern Highlands.Free guided tour and tasting. Audio visual presentation, exhibition and shop.

The Famous Grouse Experience, Crieff

 

Scotland's favourite whisky at Scotland's oldest distillery, combining the traditional distillery visit with a new and exciting sensory experience. Free tasting, gift shop, gift shop, dramming bar and restaurants. Come along and enjoy Scotland's favourite dram.

Glen Isla

 

Glen Isla is the most westerly of the five Angus Glens and the only one where the road exits to the north, as well as the south, so you can drive through the Grampian hills to Braemar and Deeside.

Glenshee Ski Centre

 

Glenshee Ski Centre offers the UK's most extensive skiing and snowboarding facilities, only 30 minutes from Nethercraig - the centre’s impressive 22 lifts and 36 runs offer an amazing diversity of natural terrain for all standards of skiers and snowboarders. Summer activities are also available and there is some great mountain biking to be had.

Get your skates on and join in the fun on the ice pad, ice hockey, curling and skating tournaments held at the state of the art multipurpose ice arena offering an excellent skating venue for all ice users. Sports bar and fast food refreshments available.

Olympia Pool, Dundee

Olympia is Dundee's new swimming pool with flumes, children splash pool and play area, rapid river, wave pool and bubble beds. They also have lane swimming and diving.

Blairgowrie Recreation Centre, Beeches Road, Blairgowrie

 

20m swimming pool with fun sessions. Ask at desk for timetable. Also games room with indoor football, badminton, hockey, tennis, basketball, etc. Trampolines, bouncy castle, fitness suite and coffee bar.

Perth Leisure Pool

The 6 pools provide something for all ages and abilities. Other facilities include the health suite, fitness room, Boomerang play park, Crusoe's cafe and ice cream parlour.

Walking

The Cateran Trail

​

The Cateran Trail is a 103km route through the heart of Scotland. It follows old drove roads and ancient tracks across a varied terrain of farmland, forests and moors, and best of all its on our doorstep!

Hill of Alyth 

​

The Hill of Alyth and the Hill of Loyal are both within walking distance of the park and are part way along the cateran trail. They offer splendid views over the Strathmore valley.

Barry Hill

​

Between Alyth and Nethercraig lies Barry hill, with no paths leading up it is an adventurous walk through a field and up the banks of the hill. Once on top you can see where a fort once stood, rumoured to have been a prison to Arthur's queen when she was taken by the Picts!

Glenshee

​

Glenshee is the next glen over from Nethercraig and has some beautiful mountains to climb. From the ski centre you can also use the lifts in the summer months to access the peaks.
